Healing Crystals for Kapha Dosha with Yogi Approved

What Is Kapha Dosha?

“Kapha means “that which sticks,” and derives from the elements Earth and Water (picture damp earth or chocolate mud cake).

When in balance, Kapha dosha is stable, soft, cool, calm, loving, caring, and affectionate. Kapha doshas have deep and soothing voices and age gracefully because of their doughy, soft skin.

They also have large eyes and smiles. Kapha women especially blossom beautifully during pregnancy. They are the earth mamas and papas who are very kind, compassionate, and patient.

When out of balance, Kapha dosha is prone to weight gain, depression, and lethargy as well as chesty coughs, sinus congestion, and water retention.” Continue reading

Healing Crystals for Vata Dosha with Yogi Approved

It has been a while since I have written an article for Yogi Approved and I felt called to create something light and airy. Everyone loves healing Crystals and I felt that mixing my knowledge of crystals with Ayurveda would be fun. This first article is all about Vata Dosha. This is a Dosha that needs grounding due it consisting of the elements of Air and Space. People who are Vata dominat tend to be highly anxious, live in their minds a lot and are prone to feeling spaced out, scatter brained, erratic and suffer with nervous disorders and insomnia.

“According to Ayurveda, we all have doshas, which are biological and subtle energies residing within the body-mind that govern all physical and mental characteristics.

These doshas are considered to give a person their unique constitution that is innate and does not change throughout a person’s life. However, they can fluctuate, which can cause an imbalance in your mind or body.

Once you find out your dosha, you can learn what kind of exercise, meditation, sleep patterns, healing crystals, pranayama practices, essential oils, colors, and environments are good for you along with things to avoid to help you lead a much more harmonious and balanced life.”

The Capricorn Full Moon

Belated Capricorn Full Moon Lunar Eclipse!

The reason why this is late is because, I have been writing articles for wellness sites and creating new content for this blog.
Before I talk more about this Capricorn moon, you may ask why I call myself a hedgewitch? Simple: The word “witch” means “wise” and a hedgewitch was once a woman who lived on the fringe of society/village- basically over the hedge. The wise women usually had a solitary existence but people came to them for spiritual guidance, herbal remedies and more, she was known to straddle between worlds-that of “normal society” and over the hedge “other realms”. Hedgwitches usually don’t follow a “religion” (or orders), they are free spirits of witchery. Just like any passion you are dedicated to can be a form of “yoga”, anyone “wise” in their subject area: It’s “witchery”.

The Capricorn full Moon:

Capricorn is associated with the planet Saturn, named after the Roman God of the same name (Greek version: Cronos). Interestingly Saturn is also associated with the biblical concept of Lucifer and the symbolism of falling from grace, temptation and desires. And this is because Saturn is the God of Karma and time. Saturn tests us and will push us to our limits. Saturn represents authority, discipline, hard work, labour and commitment. It’s also about guilt, resistance and delay. These are all attributes that a lot of Capricorns struggle with- they are usually very smartly dressed (usually like wearing business suits), very intelligent and intellectual, disciplined and believe in the realistic law and order of things. But Capricorns are also very emotional too, once pushed over their limit of duty and order they cry silent tears and can become real grumpy goats (A lot of Capricorns can struggle to unchain their primal side to let it frolic in the wild for a bit). Earth Dance in the Woods

We are all wanderers on this earth, our hearts full of wonder, our souls deep with dreams. -Romani Proverb

My ancestry is Romani and my magickal practice is that of Hedgewitchery, I am also a Priestess of the Divine Feminine. I work a lot with Romani folk magick and I see my dancing and anything I create as a both a celebration to goddess and from goddess and to honour my ancestors. My main deities/archetypes that connect me to the sacred feminine are: Aphrodite (and mermaid symbolism), Isis, the Romani goddess Sara-La-Kali and Parvati (my name Kalyani is a varient of Parvati). I felt called to do a dance barefoot on the earth as a hymn of love to the great goddess. I adore that it started raining, you can almost see the tiny droplets, its as if my dancing conjured the rain. The dream catchers you see are handmade by me also.

This is also an extension of an ongoing personal project that started with a poem now published on Rebelle Society also titled “A Hymn of Love to the Earth” and will eventually be in a book I am hoping to publish as well as the creation of an oracle deck which will showcase my botanical illustrations. The elements governing this project are earth and water.

I felt called to dance like the ancient Shamans, Oracles, Priestessess and Rom people once did, to send healing and love to pachamama during a global crisis. Continue reading

Opening the Heart Door

There is a diamond inside of me, that lights up the sky of my sou. You’re opening the heart door, letting in the light, opening the heart door, giving life to me that died.-Paula Cole

The New Moon in Cancer is harmonized by the Water Element and the Fire Element of the Summer Solstice Sun so think of the warmth of the sea on your summer vacations.

Cancer governs the sacred space of the womb. This is your memories of your experience in utero, being born, and growing up in your family’s home. The Cancer New Moon is called “Mother’s Daughter Moon” and invites you to bring forth the energy of your childhood nurturing. This vibration can open up wounds from childhood where you did not receive the nurturing that you needed and your relationship with your mother was not an easy one. Continue reading

Each of us is born with a box of matches inside us

“Each of us is born with a box of matches inside us but we can’t strike them all by ourselves; just as in the experiment, we need oxygen and a candle to help. The oxygen could be the breath of the person you love and the candle could be any kind of hobby, food, caress, word or sound that engenders the explosion that lights one of your matches. For a moment we are dazzled by an intense emotion and a warmth grows within us.

Each person needs time to discover what will set off those explosions in order to live, since the combustion that occurs when one of them is ignited is what nourishes the heart and soul. That fire, in short, is food for the soul. Continue reading

What exactly is the Shadow Self?

Here’s the thing about the shadow self. Many people misunderstand it as representing the ugly part of ourselves but it isn’t. It is usually the part of ourselves we have repressed or become dormant. It is the mirror image of things already brought to light.

Venus Retrograde: Rebirth and the paradox of Libra

The musings of a HedgeWitch

Happy Re-Birthday to Venus!
On June 3rd, 2020 Venus retrograde is conjunct the Sun. This is when a new 584-day Venus cycle begins and it actually forms a pentagram in the sky. This is also when Venus transforms from an evening star into a morning star. Venus goes retrograde less than any other planet, but when it does, it touches us to the core of our heart. Venus retrograde is similar to a descent into the underworld: a part of us must die so that a new version of ourselves can be reborn.
This intrigues me as a Libra (governed by Venus/Aphrodite) as I’ve always been pulled towards dark goddess archetypes: Persephone, Hekate and the shadow side to humanity as if I was more like a scorpio. This new knowledge comes to light and it all makes sense. Also did you know, once upon a time Libra constellation was once called Scorpio’s claw? So whilst Libras are most often than not diplomatic and balanced and don’t have the Scorpio sting, we do nip if we have to, much like the season of Autumn (October being the month of Libra) feeling the first nip of winter’s cold weather. Straddling the earthy logic of Virgo and the intencity of Scorpio makes for Libras being both logical and emotionally charged- hence the attempt at balancing such a paradox like the scales.

The Musings of a HedgeWitch: Dream with Nature

New moon in Gemini (The month of Gemini) as the phase of the moon is waxing in Leo. Gemini governed by the element of air and Leo governed by fire makes for a beautiful mix. For air fuels fire. This is a time to dream big, utilzing the communicative and creative breezyness of Gemini with the dramatic, ambitous Leo. These two playful energies push us to make impossible-seeming choices (which I can very much relate to right now!). Before we fly away, we must face our fears and feel our feels—but then, it’s time to conquer the world. Communicate YOUR truth, be true to YOUR Heart.
The more you communicate your true self, life flows easier.

With this Leo waxing moon, consentrate on your heart centre, circulation, blood pressure and heart rate.

Flower of choice: Roses. Roses are not always associated with romance. Roses are soothing and have a dream-like quality. As you wish for things to manifest, pick rose petals and send them into the wind and into the universe. Dream Big! Also, roses, when in full bloom kind of resemble and are symbolic of a giant heart, just like the courageous Leo lion heart! Continue reading

Day Dreamy Days: The Musings of HedgeWitch

During this strange time, its so easy to feel complacent or turn to keeping busy. But lets go within for a second: Its not so much about doing (or doing nothing) but about creating space for a kind of interaction to happen from within the body-mind. It’s about deciding you are going to open that space in your life, and really create an altar in your life (and heart) as a whole, and then tending to the temple within for the magic to happen.

This tattoo reminds me to do this, to be wild and free, to know love and be present like flowers and to be grounded to the earth like the scarab.
I love day dreaming, to help me tune in. It is  being in a state of presence- between this world and the other, of being in a state of quiet awareness and contemplation. This goes beyond going outside and just thinking about things, its about letting go of agenda and the ego, and simply experiancing, and this can happen in any landscape. This is about making time to be with the world as it lives and breathes, its about being in its consciousness and experiencing its medicine. Continue reading
