As well as Dream Catchers and Botanical Illustrations, I also make Hand-Fasting Cords. A Handfasting cord is used in a wedding ceremony by wrapping or tying around the couple’s joined hands, representing the joining of their lives and the binding of their union, this is where the term “Tying the knot” comes from. Through this ritual, the couple display their unity and become bound to one another.
This is the third cord I’ve made, the first was for my best friend and her fiance- which was purple, white and green tones, the second was for a close Cypriot friend and her husband- which was orangey-turquoise, sunset colours that remind me of Cyprus.
The plan this year is to open up an online shop and artist’s website for comissions. So the Etsy shop will have random creations for individuals to purchase and the website will be more like an online portfolio showcasing my best creations and information about hiring me to beautify your small event such as a woodland wedding in need of dream catcher/wreath decorations, floral/candle designs on the tables, a handfasting cord and illustrated guest invites for example.
I am also going to be making a batch of smudging feathers and botanical prints for my online shop and I am working on creating my own oracle deck and poetry based around my plant and bug drawings. This is on top of promoting myself as a yoga/holistic teacher to local studios, festivals and retreats! AND keep this blog uptodate AND writing articles for two yoga sites! PHEW!
This Hand Fasting Cord is called “Ancient Love” and is a Valentine’s present for my partner as an emotional commitment to him, as a mini proposal to suggest if he wants to propose to me and it will be used in our wedding.
The red tones represent love, passion, courage and ancient Rome because he resonates with that time in history.
The white and gold represents ancient Egypt as well as sincerity, faithfulness and abundance, since I resonate with ancient Egypt.
Brown and green symbolize stability, loyalty, modesty, safety and honesty.
Also includes white feathers, roses, charms, a tigers eye and red carnelian for protection.
As always with my creations I do a ceremony during a specific moon phase, with mantra, Reiki, sage and a love blessing incantation with lavender and rose healing spray.
